Education
The UTCM's interdisciplinary education programs may include:
- New Courses. UTCM awards funds to develop new courses for both students and professionals that have demonstrated support for implementation in an academic department on the Texas A&M University campus or professional organization as appropriate. UTCM encourages the involvement of multiple departments in course development as well as the dispersement of course materials for possible implementation at other universities.
- New Programs. UTCM awards funds for the development of new transportation programs at TAMU, either within a department or interdisciplinary in nature. Programs should have demonstrated support for implementation in at least one academic department on the Texas A&M University campus.
- Student Research Opportunities. UTCM offers undergraduates and graduates the educational opportunities that research provides by requiring student involvement in all funded projects. Stand-alone graduate research assistantships are also awarded by the UTCM. These assistantships are intended solely to support a student and are not tied to a particular research project.
- Awards for Excellence. UTCM encourages academic excellence and increased student participation in professional activities by selecting one student per year to be named UTCM Outstanding Student of the Year. This student is awarded $1,000 and travel expenses to attend the annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board in Washington, DC, including an awards ceremony.
- Fellowships and Scholarships. UTCM awards fellowships and scholarships to deserving students pursuing graduate degrees in transportation related fields.
- Seminars. UTCM's Mobility Colloquium, a lunchtime series, encourages fellowship between the professional transportation community and departments, colleges and programs with transportation interests. Interactions may stimulate opportunities for collaboration. UTCM encourages student attendance for unique exposure to topics outside their direct transportation experiences.
- Other Opportunities. UTCM promotes and expands existing opportunities to enrich the student learning experience, such as summer programs, conferences or workshops.
As the UTCM is in its final year of operations, all Education Projects have been completed. The UTCM continues to support the education of graduate students with standalone assistantships and fellowships, technology transfer travel grants to present research results, and other opportunities. The UTCM also supports the training of graduates and undergraduates on all UTCM Research Projects.
